How I Use Acids To Transform My Skin

I've always had acne-prone, problematic skin. While oily skin can be blessing in disguise (it tends to be stronger and ages better) - it's just a serious pain most of the time.

There's one thing that proves to be an effective treatment for this though - regardless of the severity of a breakout or overall lack of lustre on my face.

I never quite understood the complexities behind why, but I always relied on it in times of need.

The solution?

Acid. More specifically, AHA.

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) work on the outermost layers of the skin, helping to reduce the bonds between dead skin cells - making way for a softer and smoother surface. While they don’t penetrate deep below the surface of the skin, they are still very capable of reducing the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and dark spots. In other words, a magical potion for pretty much all skin types. The most common AHA tends to be glycolic acid, but lactic acids is another great option.

While I've used loads of different serums, gels & creams with AHA in them...there's one I found in particular that really stands out in terms of quality - it's potent, fast-acting, yet feels nourishing and has never caused me any weird over-the-top burning sensation (just a gentle tingle!).

The miracle product is by a small but mighty company called Consonant Skincare, a true innovative leader in the natural skincare industry - delivering 100% natural products for the face & body. I choose to use the words "innovative" and "leader" specifically, as they were dedicated to keeping things 'green & clean' way before everyone and their mother was doing it. In fact, they first hit the market almost 10 years ago in 2009...before paraben-free was what all the cool kids on the street were saying.

Let me enthusiastically tell you that I haven't tried a product from this brand that I haven't fallen in love with...everything they roll out is remarkably effective and you can tell is of the utmost quality and composition. Yes, it's a bit pricey. Yes, it's worth every hard-earned penny.

Anyways, back to the acid talk.

If you're looking to hit the refresh button (hardcore) on your face, acids are the way to go - and the Consonant Skincare Maximum Glycolic Meta Serum should be your first choice. It's a clinically proven, high-performance serum with the strongest possible concentration of AHA to dissolve the bonds that hold dead skin cells to the skin - allowing healthy, radiant skin to show through. I love it because it includes rich potencies of both glycolic and lactic acid, as well as a combination of additional botanical extracts soothe skin to minimize irritation, and help protect against dryness.

You'll notice the difference after just one use (I did!), with a dewey #nofilter glow after a just a couple of weeks. There's nothing like good skin to boost your confidence and get you feeling like you again.

I use it once nightly, after washing my face and pre-moisturizing. A small pea-sized amount is all that's needed to work some serious rejuvenating magic, and then I let it sit for a few minutes before layering on a night-time lotion or balm to seal the deal.

There's no doubt adding this one step will yield you results, but in case you're interested in the complete night-time routine I've been working with for the past few months...here's the "recipe":

  1. Natural Foaming Face Wash

  2. Maximum Glycolic Meta Serum

  3. HydrExtreme

Only 100% radiant skin. Yay!
